Sojourn to the Past was created in 1999 by former Bay Area history teacher, Jeff Steinberg. The Sojourn leadership team (click here) is supported by a who’s who among nationally recognized civil rights scholars and historians (click here) who serve as advisors to Sojourn in curricular areas. Sojourn’s Board of Directors includes Myrlie Evers Williams, Chair Emeritus, NAACP and widow of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers (click here to learn about the Sojourn Board).

Sojourn to the Past provides students the unique opportunity for them to delve into an important part of America's history, which the k-12 curriculum either does not cover or is limited in scope; thus, the Sojourn living history lesson ensures that the struggles of the past, which contributed to the freedoms we all enjoy today, are remembered.
